Health Insurance Consultancy for Foreigners

A policy that is not refused, with matching term and coverage

Residence permit applications require valid health insurance covering the permit period requested. In practice it is not only the existence of the policy that is checked; its start date, duration and coverage must also meet the minimum conditions set out in the relevant circular.

Policies with the wrong dates or insufficient coverage lead to the refusal of files that would otherwise proceed without difficulty. At BKT we identify the policy that suits the type of permit you will apply for, check that the period and coverage align, and prepare the insurance document together with the rest of your file.

Who is it for?

  • Foreign nationals applying for a residence permit for the first time
  • Those who will extend a residence permit and renew their policy
  • Families taking out policies for a spouse and children under a family residence permit
  • Students who need to meet the insurance requirement in a student residence permit application
  • Foreign nationals over the age of sixty-five who apply subject to special conditions
  • Employers wishing to check the insurance compliance of their foreign staff

Required documents

The list below is for a typical case. Additional documents may be requested depending on your nationality, the type of application and the practice of the relevant authority; the definitive list is given to you in writing at the initial consultation.

  • Passport and, if available, foreign national identity number
  • Residence permit application form or appointment details
  • Information on the permit period requested
  • For family applications, the identity details of the spouse and children
  • A copy of the existing policy, if any (for extension and coverage checks)

The process step by step

  1. 1

    Identifying the requirements

The minimum coverage and duration requirements are determined according to the type of residence permit you will apply for.

  2. 2

    Choosing the policy

Policy options that meet the requirements and align with your application date are compared.

  3. 3

    Checking the period alignment

The policy start date is aligned with the appointment and with the permit period requested.

  4. 4

    Submitting the document

The policy document is added to your file and checked together with the other paperwork.

  5. 5

    Renewal follow-up

The time to renew the policy is brought to your attention alongside your permit extension timetable.

Common mistakes

  • Having the policy issued so that it starts after the appointment date
  • Submitting a policy for a shorter period than the permit period requested
  • Choosing a cheap policy that does not meet the minimum coverage requirements
  • Overlooking the need for a separate policy for each individual in family applications
  • Submitting the file at a permit extension without renewing the old policy

Legal basis

Law No. 6458 and the administrative rules on valid health insurance for residence permits

Legislation and administrative practice may change. The information on this page is for general guidance only; an assessment specific to your case requires a consultation.

Health Insurance for Foreign Nationals — frequently asked questions

If I am registered with social security, is private health insurance also required?

If you can document that you are covered by social security, a separate private policy may not be requested. In that case a social security entitlement certificate must be added to the file.

When must the policy start?

The policy is expected to cover the date on which you request the residence permit and to begin before the appointment date. Policies that start later are treated as deficient.

Is a policy from a foreign insurance company accepted?

In practice, policies from insurance companies operating in Türkiye that meet the relevant conditions are required. Acceptance of policies from abroad is limited and requires confirmation in advance.

How much does the insurance cost?

The amount varies according to age, duration and coverage. At the consultation we set out the options suited to your situation side by side, with their prices.

Must the policy be renewed at a permit extension?

Yes. In an extension application, a current policy covering the newly requested period must be submitted.

What do we provide in this process?

With lawyer support

On cases that call for legal assessment — appeals, administrative proceedings and refusal decisions — we work together with a lawyer.

Grounded in the legislation

We state plainly which law and regulation each service rests on: Laws No. 6735, 6458 and 5901 and the related implementing rules.

Transparency on process and fees

Before we begin, the document list, the steps, a realistic time expectation and the total fee are shared in writing.

One point of contact

Your case is assigned to one person; you speak to the same individual at every stage and follow the process from a single place.

Let us assess your case

You do not need to have your documents to hand; describing your current situation is enough for the first step.
