From acceptance letter to student residence permit, all from one place

Foreign students who wish to study in Türkiye face several consecutive processes: application, enrolment, equivalence and the residence permit. Each of these is subject to a different institution and a different set of documents, and a delay in one directly affects the next.

At BKT we manage every step on a single timetable, from students' diploma and transcript translations through to the equivalence application, and from enrolment paperwork through to the student residence permit file. Problems caused by a mismatch between the enrolment date and the residence permit appointment are thus prevented from the outset.

Who is it for?

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students who have been accepted by universities in Türkiye
  • Foreign national students who will apply for high school equivalence
  • Students who will obtain or extend a student residence permit
  • Those who need diploma and transcript translation and the equivalence procedure
  • Students wishing to move to a work permit after graduation
  • Foreign families managing their child's education and residence process

Required documents

The list below is for a typical case. Additional documents may be requested depending on your nationality, the type of application and the practice of the relevant authority; the definitive list is given to you in writing at the initial consultation.

  • Passport and student visa
  • Acceptance or enrolment document (student certificate)
  • Sworn translation of the diploma and transcript; apostille where required
  • Student residence permit application form and biometric photograph
  • Valid health insurance
  • Address declaration and a document relating to the place of stay
  • Document evidencing financial means, or a scholarship letter

The process step by step

  1. 1

    Documents and translation

The sworn translation and, where required, the apostille of the diploma, transcript and identity documents are completed.

  2. 2

    Equivalence application

Where high school or higher education equivalence is required, the application file is prepared.

  3. 3

    Enrolment procedures

The university enrolment paperwork is checked and any missing documents are completed.

  4. 4

    Student residence permit

An appointment consistent with the enrolment date is obtained, the file is prepared and the application is filed.

  5. 5

    Extension and after graduation

The extension timetable is monitored for each academic year; status options after graduation are planned.

Common mistakes

  • Bringing the diploma and transcript without an apostille and getting stuck at the equivalence stage
  • Not planning the student residence permit appointment around the enrolment date
  • Applying without obtaining a currently dated student certificate
  • Forgetting the annual extension application and falling into violation
  • Leaving the change of status after graduation until the last day

Foreign Student Consultancy — frequently asked questions

Can I work with a student residence permit?

Associate degree and undergraduate students may apply for a work permit within the conditions laid down by law. The student residence permit itself does not directly confer a right to work.

How long does an equivalence application take?

The duration varies according to the institution applied to, the completeness of the document set and the country of graduation. Documents without an apostille or with faulty translations are the single biggest cause of delay.

Is the student residence permit renewed every year?

The permit is generally issued in line with the student's academic status, and an extension application must be filed before it expires. An extension cannot be made once the term has run out.

What happens after graduation?

When student status comes to an end, the basis of the residence permit falls away. Transition to a work permit or to another type of residence permit should therefore be planned before graduation.

Can my family visit me?

Family members can apply for a visa in their own name. We provide support in preparing the invitation letter and accommodation documents.

What do we provide in this process?

With lawyer support

On cases that call for legal assessment — appeals, administrative proceedings and refusal decisions — we work together with a lawyer.

Grounded in the legislation

We state plainly which law and regulation each service rests on: Laws No. 6735, 6458 and 5901 and the related implementing rules.

Transparency on process and fees

Before we begin, the document list, the steps, a realistic time expectation and the total fee are shared in writing.
